Orca Sighting
We spent the morning of Kai’s second day at REI flagship. Kai hadn’t seen it, and they were having a sale, so they got a few hours of our time. I’m interested in getting back into skiing this winter, so we talked to the ski people for awhile.
Then we went to the Seattle Aquarium, which is a fantastic little Aquarium that features marine life of the Pacific Northwest.
I want to see a Puffin!
They have a pond where you can actually touch starfish, urchins and anenome, and we were both surprised to see how colorful those animals were.
Stafish Mob
Hot Pink
Sea Quills
Here is Kai looking at a crab.
The best part of the aquarium were the mammal exhibits. We saw sea otters, and learned that they are the largest member of the weasel family. They also use clam shells to try to break out of their pens.
I'm going to rob a bank!
I’d say the sea lions reminded me of Fatty the Cat, but Mom gets annoyed when I compare all fat animals to Fatty.
Foooood (Looks like Fatty)
We did see an Orca, and we were really excited about that.
Typical of a Seattleite, it was wearing a hoodie.
We wandered around awhile after the aquarium, and ended up at Pikes Place Brewery.
Lush
Kai also got a chance to walk through Post Alley and see the worst Seattle landmark, at least after the Space Needle.
Gum wall. That picture is disgusting, gross.
We had dinner at Japonessa, a great sushi restaurant known for their cheap sushi happy hour. Afterwards, we went to Molly Moon’s, the best ice cream place in Seattle.
The Orca wants it all
The flavors we got were salted caramel, honey lavender and maple walnut. Fancy!
Hank was happy when everyone got home.
Except Uncle Kai!
We spent the rest of the evening watching Frasier.
Oh, I forgot, we did see a puffin.
What are you looking at, punk?!
